Leaving Our Mark on the Community

Special to NSTAR hearts are the people and organizations of North Carolina and Wake County, home to our corporate headquarters. We believe strongly in giving back to the local communities who support us. 2017 provided us with many opportunities to engage with local organizations, from youth sports teams to homeless shelters, as well as with organizations near our regional offices in different parts of the U.S.
We love celebrating the holidays with our co-workers, but we know that, for some, it’s a particularly difficult time of year. In 2017, our employees pitched in for our annual Thanksgiving food drive, and spread Christmas cheer by stocking the pantry for the Women and Children’s House through the Smithfield Rescue Mission and “adopting” a single mom with four children. Additionally, every month we provide a full meal to each resident residing at the mission.
In previous years, we have also made some wishes come true for the kids at Harbor, a safe haven for families.
We feel lucky to call Garner, North Carolina home, and think everyone should also be that fortunate. So our employees put their collective construction skills to work making that happen by partnering with Habitat for Humanity of Wake County.
And who doesn’t love a good game of baseball? That’s why fund a T-ball team of 7- to 8-year-old boys through Clayton Parks and Recreation. Youth sports promote a team environment that is beneficial to kids as they develop and adapt to the larger world. Sure, it is a small thing but that doesn’t make it any less important to the individuals participating.
Since we’ve always had a soft spot for military veterans as employees, it makes sense for us to support organizations that support them, wherever they are. To this end, we have partnered with Hire Heroes USA to help place vets in specific openings, and Utah’s Patriot Partnership to make vets first-choice hires.
